Knee Pain is a common complaint among adults and most often associated with general wear and tear from daily activities like walking, running, and sports that involve jumoing or quick pivoting movements such as skiing.

About 10-15% over 60 Year Old People are diagnosed with knee arthritis, more commonly women.

Did you know that knee injuries account for 27%.-41% of all skiing-related injuries? The most common injuries are ligamentous. These injuries can also happen with snowboarding e.g. when you land a jump incorrectly, when you try to stand in a fall, or from improper „twisting“ when you‘re on your ride

What is knee Pain?

Knee Pain can present with local dull or sharp pain at the side of the knee of above/below it. It can present with or without swelling and occasionally with a popping/crunching or clicking sound.


Some common causes of knee pain

  • Direct blow or injury to the knee e.g. during snowboarding or skiing
  • Muscle or ligament strain, e.g. with contact sports such as football or rugby
  • Discs injuries causing pain down the leg
  • Arthritis, more commonly in women and at the inner side of the knee
  • Overuse in sports 
  • Incorrect shoe wear and weight bearing, often causing pain at the outside of the knee and hip
  • Adaptive gait to previous injuries at the ankle e.g.
