Treating Pregnancy related Issues at Osteopathy Bern

Pregnancy

Did you know that during pregnancy, a hormone called relaxin is produced by the ovaries and the placenta which loosens and relaxes your muscles, joints and ligaments during pregnancy to help your body prepare for birth?

Changes during Pregnancy

During pregnancy, the body undergoes several adaptations in order to provide the best possible environment for the developing child. As part of this process, the connective tissue softens, spinal curves change and overall gait and postural patterns are altered. This is normal. Due to all these changes, different areas of the body get exposed to more pressure than usual, for instance the pelvis but also overall the abdominal cavity and organs. These changes can happen without pain but at times they can cause discomfort in the lower back, pelvis, legs and rib cage (amongst other areas). Furthermore, hormonal changes can cause changes in mood and energy levels as well as hormonal headaches. Also, nausea, heartburn and constipation can occur throughout pregnancy.
